Week 7- Observations:
The importance of observation in child development:
Observation in child development is essential to identify a child's typical behaviour in any given day to day setting. Observation allows observers to record progression and regression over a specified time period. When observation is successful, the findings will lead to more purposeful and tailored instruction and teaching that can be based upon a variety of observed factors; such as but not limited to, likes, dislikes, abilities and developmental abilities.

Preferred record of choice: When completing a child observation I would use the Running Record as it is a present account, a play by play, of what is occurring in the room in jot-note form. This form of observation gives space for comments and leaves room for a growth mindset; encouraging the observer to think "What's next? How can we improve, what do we need to work on?" I also liked that the Running Record remains positive and objective while still allowing an opportunity for the observer to use descriptive language.
